The 2006 ITU Hobart Oceania Cup Triathlon is part of the Triathlon Australia (TA) National Triathlon Series. The event carries International Triathlon Union (ITU) World ranking points. This years event will be the final hit out for elite athletes competing at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Teams from England, Canada, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales and Australia will be competing. The event will also be a selection race for age group athletes who wish to represent Australia at the ITU World Triathlon Championships at Lausanne, Switzerland. Athletes will also compete for TA National Series points to decide the TA National Series Champions. The course will take in much of the city's historic waterfront and CBD including Battery Point. The transition is located at Princes Wharf adjacent to the famous Salamanca Place and directly in front of Parliament House.
