Start mechanism:
Pontoon 60 meters long x 2 meters wide
Race conditions:
The swim will consist of 2 laps of 750 meters in a protected bay. The start will be from a pontoon and the athletes will swim a clockwise around the buoys.
SWIMMING COURSE FAMILIARIZATION
Swimming course familiarization will take place on the 2nd May 2008 from 11h00 to 12h00. During the swim course familiarization, lifeguards will be in attendance

Water temperature: Normally between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius
Cycle course:
Total road closure for the bike and run leg has been approved for race day to ensure the safety of all competitors. The Richards Bay traffic department will be on duty for the duration of the race. Parking for competitors and spectators will be clearly marked.
8 Laps of 5 km , From the race venue, into Davidson Lane, turn left into Hibberd Drive, left onto the John Ross (R34) road and back into Bay View Boulevard, right into Davidson Lane down to the race venue, through the transition area and start of the next lap. The route is reasonably flat with only one short hill to climb of approximately 300 meters.
BIKE COURSE FAMILIARIZATION
Bike course familiarization will take place on the 2nd May 2008 from 10h00 to 11h00
During the bike course familiarization, traffic enforcement officers will lead the cycle and drive a back-up behind the cyclists.
WHEEL STATION
Two wheel stations will be located on the bike course and will only have 700c wheels available.
BIKE SERVICE
For any bike repairs, Zululand Cycles can be found at 41 Bullion Boulevard, Richards Bay. Tel No. 035-7894464. For your convenience, they will also be at the race venue on Wednesday, 30th April 2008 and on Sunday, 4th May 2008.
Run Course:
4 laps of 2,5 km in the vicinity of the race venue. This course is flat and fast with one short hill of approximately 70 meters.
RUN COURSE FAMILIARIZATION
Run course familiarization will take place on the 2nd May 2008f rom 09h00 to 10h00.

TRAINING FACILITIES
The City of uMhlatuze has kindly allowed the use of their 25m pool for all athletes between 08h00 and 16h00. The pool is situated 1.5km from the host Hotel.
MEDICAL COSTS
No fees will be charged for the treatment provided by the event medical team on race day.
Any serious or life threatening conditions that require hospitalization will be billed to the injured/sick individual by the hospital. All individuals are advised to supply Team Managers and Race organizers with their medical insurance details.
ATHLETE HOSPITALITY
Sealed bottles of water, tea, coffee, orange juice, snacks, fruits and energy bars will be offered to athletes and to the team officials before from the athletes lounge at the race venue.
TEMPERATURE
Average weather for May is a low of 16○ Celsius and a high of 25○ Celsius. Wind direction normally SW with a speed of between 8 and 15 knots. Humidity is between 70 and 85%.
RACE INFORMATION CENTER
A Race Information Centre will be available at the Host Hotel from Monday, 28th April till the 5th May 2008 from 08h00 – 20h00.
ACCREDITATION
Elite athletes will be given separate wrist accreditation bands when they check-in at their accommodation. Competitors must wear their accreditation bands for the duration of their stay. Managers, Media and Coaches are also required to have accreditation tags. This can be collected from the Race Information Centre at the host hotel
REGISTRATION
Registration will take place at the Race Venue on Friday 2nd May 2008 from 15h00 to 17h00. No late registrations will be permitted. Competitors will be given their Accreditation, race numbers and race/goodie bags. Only competitors may register.
RACE BRIEFING
A compulsory Race Briefing for Elite athletes will take place on 2nd May 2008 from 17h00 at the race venue.
WELCOMING FUNCTION
The Welcoming Dinner will take place on Friday 2nd May 2008 from 19h00. The function will take place at the Host Hotel
CLOSING FUNCTION
The Closing Function will be held at the Host Hotel at 19h00 on Sunday, 4th May 2008. Only athletes and invited guests will be allowed to attend. No additional tickets will be available. A cash bar will be provided.
