También texto en español.British Triathlon will become the first Governing Body in the world to offer a national event exclusively for disabled triathletes when the British Disabled Triathlon Championships supported by Wrigley’s Airwaves® gets underway on 1 June.
The race will take place as part of the Rother Valley Triathlon festival held in Rother Valley Country Park, just outside Rotherham in South Yorkshire. The inclusion of the Disabled Championships is a culmination of years of hard work and recent development projects supported by British Triathlon’s Premier Sponsor, Corus.
British Triathlon and event organisers, One Step Beyond Promotions, will be catering for all categories of disability, which requires all of the athletes needing to be classified. This is either carried out weeks before the event or during the registration process. Organising a race of this nature also has its own issues to overcome, for instance it is surprising how much space a racing wheel chair needs in transition!
Adam Moffat, Director of One Step Beyond Promotions, said:

Under the British Triathlon Disability Classification System there are 48 individual profiles which have been categorised into nine classes, enabling equal and fair competition to take place. The race organisers have already had entries from eight disabled athletes who all signed up in the first month. The aim is to have over 50 athletes competing in the first ever British Disabled Triathlon Championships supported by Wrigley's Airwaves® come June.

El Triatlón británico será el primer Consejo de Administración (Governing Body) en el mundo en ofrecer una prueba nacional exclusivamente para triatletas discapacitados cuando el Campeonato de Triatlón Británico para Discapacitados apoyado por Wrigley’s Airwaves® se ponga en marcha el 1 de Junio.
La carrera tendrá lugar como parte del festival de Triatlón de rother Valley que se albergará en el Parque Natural de Rother Valley, justo a las afueras de Rotherham al Sur de Yorkshire. La inclusión de los Campeonatos para discapacitados es la culminación de años de duro trabajo y de recientes proyectos de desarrollo apoyados por el Principal Patrocinador del Triatlón Británico, Corus.
El triatlón Británico y los organizadores de la prueba, One Step Beyond Promotions, cubrirán a todas las categorías de discapacitados, las cuales requieren que todos los atletas estén clasificados. Esto se llevará a cabo semanas antes de la prueba o durante el proceso de registro. La organización de una carrera de esta naturaleza también tiene problemas que solucionar, por ejemplo es sorprendente cuanto espacio necesita una carrera de silla de ruedas en la transición.

Bajo el Sistema de Clasificación de Discapacidad del Triatlón Británico hay 48 perfiles individuales los cuales han sido categorizados en nueve clases, permitiendo que se de una competición ecuánime y justa. Los organizadores de la carrera ya han registrado a ocho atletas con discapacidad los cuales han sido todos inscritos en el primer mes. El objetivo es tener a más de 50 atletas compitiendo en los primeros Campeonatos de Triatlón Británicos de Discapacitados de Junio apoyados por Wrigley's Airwaves®.
